desta vez com neve na Europa, em pleno solsiticio de Verão!:eek::eek:
Austrian glaciers get 50cm of midsummer snow
"Surely some mistake?" That's what we thought when we saw the Welove2ski snow forecast on Friday, June 18. It was predicting up to 50cm of fresh snow in parts of Austria and Switzerland for today, June 20. But that's exaclty what they've got.
.................................
We're finding it hard to get decent webcam pictures of the scene there this afternoon. Most are shrouded in cloud. But it's clear there's been heavy snow - and the forecast is that there's more to follow. At one glacier, the Stubai, south of Innsbruck, they're reporting 20cm of snow on the valley floor and 50cm of powder higher up! When the skies eventually clear there'll be a Midsummer powder party...
.................................
It's not just Austria that's seen the snow. Some of the heaviest falls have been in the high and remote Engadin Valley in south-eastern Switzerland, which is home to St Moritz. There's also been snow at altitude nearby in Italy - as the picture, below, from Madonna di Campiglio shows. And there's even been a 5cm dusting on the glacier above Tignes in France - which opened for summer skiing on Saturday.
