Déficit record americano!

Com o dolar em alta ou em baixa, os americanos parecem importar cada vez mais.

Áparte as "manobras contabilisticas" (que é assunto controverso e pouco esclarecedor) das exportações de serviços americanos (leia-se, uso de off-shores para fugir ao fisco), parece que os americanos continuam a importar como loucos.

Os chinocas, infelizmente acusados de tudo e mais alguma coisa, também já começam a importar mais que o que exportam. À excepção de Maio, os chineses começam a conhecer os déficits, quiçá crónicos.

Os vencedores: Japão; Koreia e... Alemanha.

Mas com o actual déficit americano e o previsivel déficit chinoca... (É que a dinâmica das exportações-importações continua a ser negativa para o lado chinês.)

EUA: Défice comercial fixa novo recorde em Abril

A balança comercial americana alcançou um défice recorde em Abril, totalizando um saldo negativo de 48,3 mil milhões de dólares (cerca de 40,16 mil milhões de euros), agravando-se em 3,8% face ao recorde do mês anterior, segundo dados do Departamento do Comércio divulgados esta segunda-feira.

O valor atingido em Abril contraria as expectativas dos especialistas de uma redução do desequilíbrio, o qual sucede ao crescimento de 9,1% já registado em Março de 2004, fixando novo máximo no saldo negativo da balança comercial da maior economia mundial com o resto do mundo.

Segundo os números do Departamento do Comércio as importações cresceram levemente (+0,2%), até ao máximo de 142,3 mil milhões de dólares, enquanto o fluxo contrário de bens e serviços registou diminuição de 1,5%, alcançando 93,9 mil milhões de dólares (94,7 mil milhões de dólares em Março).

A amplitude registada na redução de exportações foi a maior desde Agosto de 2003, e o défice com a China cresceu em 2,6 mil milhões de dólares, para totalizar 12 mil milhões no final de Maio.

Anda para aí uma fobia enorme aos chineses. Diz-se que temos que lhes fechar as fronteiras. Uns dizem que as devemos fechar, para obrigar o governo chinês a implantar sistemas de segurança social parecidos com os europeus. Outros, devido aos salários dos chineses, gostariam que os chineses não tivessem as portas abertas para entrar.

Julgo que o proteccionismo nunca trás vantagens para ninguém. (Como se viu pela Crise dos Anos 30, onde a "exportação da crise" gerou uma maior crise, em todos os países. E depois... A guerra!)

Mas há um dado que nos deve merecer especial atenção: o éficit do comércio internacional chinês.

China Records First Monthly Trade Surplus This Year

China reversed four consecutive months of trade deficit in May when it posted 2.1 billion US dollars in trade surplus, thanks to the country's efforts to curb excessive investment in the steel and some other sectors as imports of iron ore and steel began to slow down last month, official figures show. According to figures released Friday by the General Administration of Customs, China's foreign trade totaled 423.84 billion US dollars during the first five months of this year, up 37.1 percent year-on-year. The country's exports during the five-month period were valued at 207.59 billion US dollars, up 33.4 percent, and imports valued at 216.25 billion US dollars, up 41 percent, leaving a trade deficit of 8.66 billion US dollars. Foreign trade in May totaled 87.63 billion US dollars, up 34.1 percent, including 44.87 billion US dollars in exports, up 32.8 percent, and 42.77 billion US dollars in imports, up 35.4 percent. China has moved to curb excessive investment in steel and construction projects since late last year in a bid to prevent the economy from overheating, and to ease the shortage of energy through administrative intervention, monetary and other measures. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said earlier this month that the Chinese government's efforts to cool down overheating sectors has begun to pay off. (xinhuanet)(06/11/2004)

Beijing Customs: Reduction of Import Duty Drove up Imports of Wine

It was learned from Beijing Customs, import duty of wine in 2004 was down from 44.6% to 14%, which stimulated a big increase in imports. According to the Customs, in the first quarter in 2004, Beijing imported 1997 tons of wine with a value of US$1.175 million, up by 46% and 25.4% respectively. According to the introduction of Beijing Customs, features of Beijing's imports of wine in the first quarter were: 1, Main type of imports was still conventional trade. In the first quarter, imports of wine by conventional trade were US$1.169 million, up by 24.9% on a year-on-year base and accounting for 99.4% of total imports. 2, Average import price of wine was down compared with the same period of last year. Average import price of wine in Beijing was US$588.5/ton, US$685/ton less than that in the same period of last year and down by 14.1%. 3, Imports of wine in bulk in big containers were predominant. 4, Beijing imported wine mainly from Chile and EU countries. In the first quarter, Beijing imported 1775 tons wine from Chile with a value of US$787 thousand, accounting for 88.9% and 67% respectively of total imported wine. And the imports from Italy increased with the highest speed among EU countries, amounting to 106 tons in the first 3 months, up by 23.3 times, and imports from France were 40 tons, up by 19.8%. 5, Imports by foreign investment enterprises were the most, and imports by state-owned enterprises rose by a big margin. In the first quarter, imports by foreign investment enterprises were 15279 thousand tons with a value of US$663 thousand, accounting for 76.5% and 56.4% respectively of total imports. Imports by state-owned enterprises were 4596 thousand tons and valued at US$489 thousand, up by 3.1 times and 1.8 times respectively. (mofcom)(05/27/2004).

A Índia também está a aumentar as suas importações.

E nestes dois países não bebem só vinho barato.

Mas nós temos a mania que iremos conseguir vender vinhos caríssimos, face à Qualidade oferecida. Mas Qualidade é o mercado que o define. E este... Prefere outros vinhos. Tradição aliada a novas tecnologias.

Pois é, um país não vive apenas de "nichos" de mercado. Portugal não se pode dar ao luxo de vender apenas vinhos caríssimos destinados a um público alvo muito específico. A China está a comprar muito vinho mas quer pagar pouco, pois eles dão mais atenção à quantidade do que à qualidade. O que fazer?
